a victim of emotional abuse

Emotional Abuse is on the rise. And in many cases it is worse than physical abuse.

It can happen instantaneous or be carried out for years. Both children and adults suffer at the hands of

emotional abuse.

”I wanted to be loved so badly, I ignored his mean side.

I felt totally hopeless and worthless.”

Emotional abuse or mental abuse, is a form of abuse, characterized by a person subjecting, or exposing, another person to behavior that may result in psychological trauma, including anxiety, chronic depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder.

If you are a victim of emotional abuse I urge you to seek help! No matter how much you love

the person who may be treating you this way, you need to get some reassurance that this is NOT normal!

If you dread waking up every morning, or fear the minute they walk in the door, chances are good that you are being emotional abused.

A healthy, non-abusive relationship is built on a loving, caring, supportive, respectful balance of feelings.

If you are reading this and realize you are the abuser, I urge you to get counseling! Maybe you don’t really realize that you are doing it… Get some help immediately!

There could be a number of signs of emotional abuse but I will list 5:

They treat you like you are not a whole person. The make choices for you because they see you as incompetent/incapable. Your wants and needs are not important if they don’t deem them important. They are degrading. They call you names. Talk down to you and use sarcasm when they do speak to you. Tell jokes at your expense. You’re always the one who has done something wrong. They accuse and blame you and/or everyone else for everything. They are not wrong and will not apologize for anything. They dominate and control your life. They treat you like a child. They act superior. Control your decisions about spending etc… You need their approval to go somewhere or to do something. They withhold affection and attention. You get the cold shoulder or the silent treatment. They will walk out on conversations or sit in another room, or sleep in the other room away from you.
